The South Albany Rebel name and mascot was originally chosen by the student body and must have had approval from supervising adults. So who is going to determine this time around if the new name is “inclusive” or “offensive”? What criteria will be used to evaluate the political correctness of the student’s name and mascot suggestions?

Since it seems that both students and adults failed the last time, I am wondering what will be different this time? We seem to forget that students still need adult oversight. Is anybody on the school board paying attention?

And how exactly is the name change going to be paid for? Estimates have been in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Just a little creative accounting like was used by the school board to pay off the artificial turf? Amazing how once again taxpayers will foot the bill for something that will not help Oregon’s failing graduation rates.

Yep, we will soon have some shiny new and freshly remodeled schools with politically correct names. Now here is the real question: When the school facilities are all modernized and nobody is offended by a school name or mascot, what will be the excuse given for the poor educational performance in our schools? Think on it.
