The City Council and mayor want to levy a utility fee to fix Albany streets or float another bond measure. How much more can we stand to pay in utility fees and property taxes upped by another bond measure? Councilor Coburn was quoted in the D-H on Feb. 13, saying, "How would you, Mr. and Mrs. Taxpayer, like to pay for it?" It being repairs to the Albany streets. Pay for streets with CARA funds!
Use CARA (urban renewal) money to fix the streets within its boundaries. I know there is no return to CARA's coffers from public works projects because streets don't pay property taxes. But Oregon laws do allow urban renewal funds to be used for public works.
