On Thanksgiving afternoon, I was privileged to volunteer at the American Legion Post 10 Veterans Holiday Dinner.
This gala meal was free to veterans, their families and close friends. Nearly 70 guests enjoyed turkey, stuffing, marshmallow-topped sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes and gravy, a biscuit and selected from a dessert table that was overflowing with choices. If they left hungry, it was their own fault!
This dinner is an annual event that is spearheaded by Penny McCarthy, the chef extraordinaire of the Post's galley, and put on completely by volunteers from Auxiliary Unit 10, Sons of American Legion Post 10 and the community. In December, the Post will again open its doors to Veterans for a warm, filling meal on Christmas Day after they bring Santa Claus to Albany children for a celebration on Dec. 23.
I am asking the Albany community to support the American Legion Post 10 family and consider a donation to help them continue to offer these types of events.
