My hat is off to Kathleen Parker (Opinion, Jan. 1) for meticulously uncovering Mr. Trump's nefarious use of fake news. The term (which he stole from another person) may be relatively new and indicative of a new normal, but wielded as a political weapon it has been around for quite some time. Hitler and his Nazi henchmen employed it with terrible effectiveness that left millions of murdered victims in its wake.
For this reason, I suggest that all citizens who care for democracy loudly protest whenever the Big Lie raises its head in speech, what people do or in legislative action.
To wit: 1. Bullying, shaming and insult by twitter. 2. Preaching hate and intolerance. 3. Denying millions their health insurance. 4. Separating children from their parents. 5. Breaking promises to the Dreamers. 5. Spreading false rumors abut FBI, CIA and special counsel Robert Mueller. 6. Tearing up treaties and agreements unilaterally. 7. Opening national monuments for industrial exploitation . 8. Trashing protections for air, soil and water. 9. "Reforming" the tax system for the benefit of the rich, with scarcely a sop to the rest of us. 10. Governing by the old slogan of dictators, divide et impera, divide and conquer.
One could go, on but the lesson is clear: If we don't combat the big and little liars, the unity of the country and the the middle class with it will be destroyed, and our grandchildren and great grandchildren will pay the piper.
Please help save the Union from the Great Divider.
