My heart goes out to those with loved ones in Vegas this past weekend. I'm sure there will be renewed outcry for more gun control.
I've come around to that position. Let's outlaw all guns, just like we did drugs! Wait! That wasn't so successful. OK, let's buy all guns like Australia did. Whoops, their crime rate went up not down. How about making hand guns illegal like Chicago and DC. No, they have the highest crime rates in the nation. Besides, the nut in Vegas was using fully automatic rifles, which are already illegal. It didn't slow him down much.
When a drunk kills people with his car nobody blames the car. When McVeigh bombed the federal building, nobody lobbied to ban fertilizer. When the terrorists brought down the Twin Towers, where was the outcry against airplanes? But, when guns are involved, some how it becomes the hardware's fault. It makes no sense. And it deters us from addressing the real issues.
