I want to write regarding the contract conflict at LBL ESD. I'm a school psychologist with the ESD. I have been working without a contract this entire school year.
We have been bargaining for a year and the management team has only moved slightly from their original proposal. On the contrary, the union team has offered numerous creative solutions to the identified problems. At this point, the best offer from our employer suggests we change our contract prior to collecting the data to make an informed decision.
The union is adamantly against extending our work week to 42 hours before accessing flex time because only a limited amount of our job responsibilities even count toward that 42 hours. The ESD does not recognize all the hours we voluntarily give to our profession, students, and employer. This weekend, I brought work home and have given 4 additional hours to keep up with my work load. Those hours do not count toward the 42 hour threshold. My employer wants me to give an additional 2 hours of the "approved" activities. To top that, the financial package is insulting. They are asking us to work more for less pay. My cost of living in Albany has gone up more than 3percent but my employer only wants to increase my pay by 1.5 percent with no retro pay. No one wants to work more for less!
