Our country was born out of protest. The argument against the NFL players kneeling could have been written by anyone in the one-third of the colonial population who opposed the Revolution.
Protest is an act to defend rights that are being abused. Our Revolutionary fathers offended the British (and we were British) establishment. Protest will necessarily offend the established powers. It will necessarily run counter to the established thinking on what is proper.
Our allegiance must first be to God, then to the Human Right for which Jesus spoke so eloquently, and then to principles on which are country was founded. These Rights are ingrained in our Constitution, which is what our leaders, officials, and military give their oath to support and defend.
Flags, pledges, and patriotic ritual cannot be used to suppress the right to speak out on issues of great importance.
