Next Saturday, Nov 11, is significant to me. Fifty years ago I was young and a soldier in Vietnam. Albany boasts that it hosts the largest Veterans Day parade in the West. As in the past, members of our City Council are most likely preparing to participate. Members of the CARA Board may well line the parade route. I would ask them to not involve themselves.
Why? These members may mouth a “thank you for your service” to us veterans, but I feel it is now empty of meaning. They refuse support to retire the burdensome debt that our local American Legion Post 10 operates under. To “wave the flag” on only one day then turn their collective backs to us local veterans for the other 364 days is just unAmerican!
The American Legion Post is within the CARA boundaries. There are veterans dollars in the CARA coffers. The Post could be open more hours to provide veteran’s services and enjoyment once that debt is removed. Supporting the post would be very less costly than some of the other CARA financed mega-projects. Just do it!
