Returning from Lebanon early Saturday afternoon, I was quite alarmed to see a jet flying at a very low altitude over the mid-valley. It seemed as if it was in a holding pattern over the area and was circling around the I-5 and Highway 34 interchange.

Not only I was concerned about this situation. Other motorists as well seemed almost panicked by this event.

Many people were not paying attention to the road. Instead they were focusing on the jet. A lot of people pulled over into the emergency lane on Highway 34, and people traveling south on I-5 stopped to gawk, myself included.

Only then did I realize that it was the OSU Horizon jet that promotes the school.

After the recent "photo op" by Air Force One over New York City, which scared the daylights out of thousands on the ground, I feel that this event was in poor taste and not necessary.

Not only was it a bad idea, but also does it not leave a carbon footprint by the university in this time of supposed global warming?
