Drivers running into crowds at festivals. Pickups running into Dari Mart. Getting your hair shampooed at Perfect Look. Needless injury and damage from older drivers who should not be driving.

It's time to require a driving test upon one's 70th birthday and every seven years thereafter. Sure, the interest groups will cry elder bias. But we may all feel better about the safety of our older driving citizens knowing they can pass a driving test.

We require this of people getting a license. And we should require this of people keeping a license. The current system of limiting licenses for those who should no longer drive is not keeping these incidents from happening or out of the headlines.
