SWEET HOME — Award-winning country music performer and actor Tim McGraw will return to the Oregon Jamboree for the third time next August after The Band Perry canceled its appearance due to a scheduling conflict.
McGraw, who headlined the Jamboree in 1996 and 2009, will join Miranda Lambert for the 22nd annual event to be held Friday through Sunday, Aug. 1-3, 2014 behind Sweet Home High School.
McGraw has a special connection with the Jamboree.
In 1996, McGraw presented his then girlfriend and now wife, Faith Hill, with a classic 1960 red and white Chevrolet Corvette backstage at the Jamboree. The car is now on loan and displayed at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky, along with vehicles owned by several other famous entertainers.
“We are sad that The Band Perry won’t be joining us this year, sometimes these things just happen that are out of our control” said Erin Regrutto, festival director. “But we couldn’t be happier that Tim McGraw will be with us and know that he will put on a great show.”
Teresa Stas, festival sales and marketing manager, said the Jamboree’s Facebook page lit up with positive comments after McGraw’s news was announced.
“People love it,” Stas said of the act change.
This year’s Jamboree set attendance records of 15,500 on both Friday and Sunday, with headliners Toby Keith and Dwight Yoakum respectively. Up and comer Luke Bryan headlined on Saturday and drew a crowd of 14,500.
“We were very pleased with attendance,” Stas said. “We’re going to have an even bigger stage next year. Our goal is to make the Jamboree bigger and better every year.”
Stas said a third headline act should be announced in about a week.
McGraw’s record-shattering career includes selling more than 40 million albums, and dominating the charts with 34 number one singles. Since the release of his debut album in 1993, he has won three Grammys, 14 Academy of Country Music Awards, 12 Country Music Association Awards, and 10 American Music Awards, while maintaining a successful career as a successful actor in such films as The Blind Side, Country Strong, and Friday Night Lights.
