A semi-trailer hauling sheep overturned on Berlin Road near Bellinger Scale Road at about 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, killing 70 animals, according to the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.

Two farm workers in the vehicle weren’t hurt, however.

The workers had just loaded nearly 400 sheep into the trailer and were headed westbound to the Tangent area.

The semi was going about 45 mph and the fully-loaded trailer tipped as it was going around a corner, police reports indicate.

Some of the sheep got loose and were running around Mallard Creek Golf Course, according to police reports.

No citations have been issued in the case, which still is under investigation.

The owner of the sheep and truck is Tony Wahl.
