LINN COUNTY CIRCUIT COURT

Vehicle theft arrest — Monday afternoon. Steven Mitchell Mericer, 22, was charged in Linn County Circuit Court with unauthorized use of a vehicle, two counts of unlawful entry into a motor vehicle, and two counts of second-degree theft. The crimes allegedly occurred on Thursday.

LEBANON POLICE

Car fire — 5:19 p.m. Sunday, 1200 block E. Grant Street. A man was taken to a Portland hospital’s burn unit after a van fire. The van was heading eastbound. A gas can had spilled while the driver was taking a corner. A passenger, Cody Kent, lit a cigarette which ignited the gas and Kent. The driver pulled over and was able to get Kent away from the vehicle. She and a passerby were able to put out the flames before public safety agencies arrived. Kent was taken to Lebanon Community Hospital and then to Portland. Several rifles and a handgun were in the van, unloaded, during the time of the fire. Additional information wasn’t immediately available.

SWEET HOME POLICE

Stolen car arrest — 10:34 a.m. Sunday, Osage Street and 13th Avenue. An officer located a stolen vehicle, and Aaron Michael Looney, 26, was arrested on a charge of unauthorized use of a vehicle. He was charged with that crime and with driving while suspended in Linn County Circuit Court on Monday afternoon. He also had a Linn County warrant for failure to appear on a possession of heroin charge.
