People arrested are innocent unless proven otherwise in court. Initial charges often change as a case progresses.


Accidental shooting — 10:20 a.m. Sunday, 31880 Highway 99E, Oregon School of Gunfighting, Tangent. A 37-year-old man accidentally shot himself in the foot. No information about his condition was available.

Store robbery — 12:01 p.m. Saturday, 1700 block of Geary Street S.E., La Aguila store. A man with what was reported to be a 9mm weapon entered the store demanding money. No one was injured, and detectives are investigating the incident.

Safes found — 1:58 p.m. Sunday, 2400 block of Salem Avenue S.E. A person found two safes near the railroad tracks. One was open and empty and the other was still locked. Police are investigating.

Gun waver — 3:58 p.m. Saturday, 900 block of 21st Street S.E. A passerby reported what appeared to be a teenager waving a gun in front of a house. Police discovered the gun was a toy.

What really happened? — 1:50 a.m. Saturday, 900 block of Airport Road S.E., Heatherdale Mobile Court. A 22-year-old man was found unconscious and bleeding from a cut near his wrist. When the man came to, he said he’d cut himself accidentally when he fell on a piece of broken mirror. He said police should pay no attention to the knife found next to him. He was taken to the hospital in Albany to get stitches.

Gimme food — 7:51 p.m. Saturday, 200 block of Lyon Street S.E., Pizza King. A homeless man entered the restaurant and was asked to leave after he started bothering diners. Customers complained that the man was taking food from their plates. Customers took charge and walked the man out the door.

Gun found — 8:25 p.m. Saturday, 1200 block of 34th Avenue S.E. A woman notified police that she found a loaded gun in a chair outside of the apartment complex where she goes to smoke. About the same time, a man who had a concealed weapons permit called to say his gun had fallen out of its holster but he didn’t know where. Police returned the gun to its owner.

Burglary report — 12:34 a.m. Saturday, 500 block of 24th Avenue S.E. A caller said someone broke into his apartment and ransacked it. Police are investigating.


Hang on — 4:10 p.m. Saturday, Ninth and Elm streets. A woman was seen riding on the rear bumper of a blue, Ford pickup. She was hanging onto the tailgate. Police couldn’t find the pickup “in motion.”

Way up there — 4:15 p.m. Saturday, 10th and Long streets. A black pit bull was seen on top of a two-story building. An officer arrived to find that someone lives at the location and so does the dog.

Vehicle into house — 4:19 p.m. Saturday, 5900 block of Nandina Street. A vehicle was being worked on when it slipped into gear and rolled across the street into a house. No one was injured. Information was exchanged and photographs taken.

Stop calling — 9:51 p.m. Saturday, 1200 block of 55th Avenue. A dispatcher for Linn County requested that a Sweet Home officer speak to a man about his continually contacting the sheriff’s office. The officer, who found an intoxicated man at the location, asked him only to call dispatch if he had a problem.

Vehicle missing — 12:11 p.m. Saturday, 600 block of Third Avenue. A man reported that a 4-wheeler parked in his backyard was stolen. The quad was found at 12:30 p.m. Sunday in bushes in the 400 block of Oak Terrance.


Bottle thief — 1:59 p.m. Saturday, 400 block of Ellingson Road S.W. A woman called to say someone came onto her front porch and took the 250 bottles she had ready to take to get her deposit money back. She thinks the person who stole them was driving a silver SUV.


Kitchen fire — 12:37 p.m. Saturday, 400 block of Ermine Street S.E. Firefighters were called to an apartment where cooking oil had heated up on the stove. Everyone got out of the house safely.
