More than 120 young creatures, parents and a few dogs took a leisurely walk through downtown Albany on Saturday morning for the sixth annual Procession of the Species.

The participants included Miranda Lawley, 8, left, Madison Slocum, 8, and Beth Rouse, 8, all of Albany.

People of all ages were invited to dress up as their favorite animal, tree, flower or other natural element and march in the colorful parade, which started and finished on Fourth Avenue in front of the Linn County Courthouse.

After the procession, the kids got to take part in hands-on Earth Day activities, including a walk inside the Rickreall Watershed Council's oversized Claudia Chinook. The city of Albany, OSU Linn County Extension Service and Republic Services provided other activities.

The city and Albany Downtown Association sponsored the procession, and Albany Kiwanis Club members helped with traffic control.
