Leadership students at Albany Options School are collecting new and gently used books for elementary school-aged students between now and May 13.

Dropoff points have been established at Albany Options School, 701 19th Ave. S.E.; Rhythm and Brews Cafe, 229 Third Ave. S.W. in downtown Albany; Ray’s Food Place, 621 Hickory St. N.W. in North Albany; the main branch of the Albany Public Library, 2450 14th Ave. S.E.; and both Albany branches of Central Willamette Community Credit Union, 645 Waverly Drive S.E. and 905 29th Ave. S.W.

The leadership students will donate the books to children at Sunrise Elementary School during a literacy activity fair they plan to organize for the younger students next month.

Central Willamette Community Credit Union gave the alternative high school a $300 grant for posters, supplies and prizes. Goodwill has agreed to donate 300 books in addition to whatever can be gathered from the community.

Books can be fiction or nonfiction, in English or Spanish, any genre.
