Former Corvallis resident Sheila B. Fitzpatrick died Saturday, Sept. 21, at Joanna’s Elder Care in Corvallis. She was 90.

She was born in County Laois, Ireland, to James and Margaret (Mollney) Fitzpatrick, and then moved to Holyoke, Mass., in 1933 following her mother’s death. She loved being Irish and her cousins, Martina McCann (Ireland) and Helen Hefferman (Canada) are her closest living relatives.

After being named valedictorian in high school, she attended Anna Maria College and graduated summa cum laude with a mathematics major in 1948. she worked for Catholic Charities in New York as a social worker for two years and then began her professional career at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company where she worked until 1988.

After retirement, Sheila moved to Philomath and later to Corvallis.

Sheila was a Master Gardener. She also enjoyed photography and bridge. She was an active member of St. Mary’s parish in Corvallis and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

A rosary and eulogies will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, at DeMoss Durdan Funeral Home, followed by a wake service (Irish celebration for all her friends) at 3402 S.W. Knollbrook Ave., in Corvallis. The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Corvallis followed by a luncheon in the Upper Social Hall and burial at St. Mary’s Cememtery.

Flowers can be sent to St. Mary’s Church.
