Mary “Rita” Clark, 76, died of causes related to kidney disease on December 3 at Samaritan Evergreen Hospice House near her home in Albany.

She was born April 22, 1941 to Joseph and Rosella Cranford on the Yankton Sioux Reservation in Wagner, South Dakota. She moved to Portland with her family at a young age.

She married Phillip Clark in 1973 and they lived together in Portland for over 45 years before moving to Albany in 2016.

Prior to Retirement, “Rita” was an in-home health care provider.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons Thomas Schneider of Oregon City, Mark Schneider of Cottage Grove; daughters Debbie Fazio of Portland, Christine Wilson of Albany; ten grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters Pat Williams of Portland, Kathy Ruiz of Montesano, Washington, Mary Jo Lalonde of Sheridan; and brother John Cranford of Woodburn. She was preceded in death by brothers Joseph Cranford and James Cranford both of the Portland area; and son David Schneider of Lebanon.

She was a member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians of Belcourt, North Dakota and a descendant of Mary Gourneau Grandbois, (1895-1953), the first woman elected to Turtle Mountain tribal council.

Recitation of the Rosary will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 13 at Huston-Jost Funeral Home. A funeral Mass for Mary “Rita” Clark will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 14 in St. Edward Catholic Church in Lebanon.

The family suggests remembrances be contributions to Samaritan Evergreen Hospice, sent in care of Huston-Jost Funeral Home, 86 W. Grant St, Lebanon, OR 97355.
