Marie Cole was born December 11, 1929 to Joe and Esther Juranek in Oregon City.
She died November 2, 2017 at her home in Dallas, Oregon.
Marie grew up on a dairy farm in Oregon City the oldest of four children and graduated from Canby High School. She attended Oregon College of Education for two years before meeting and marrying fellow student, Joe Lee Cole, a Navy veteran from North Carolina.
After Joe's graduation from OCE in 1952, they moved to Corvallis. They had five children, Linda, Paul, Jane, Susan and Jon, all of whom graduated from Corvallis High School, except Jane, who passed away from Lupus disease in 1971. Linda also passed away from acute renal failure in 2008.
Marie completed her elementary education degree at Oregon State University in 1968. She taught at various schools in the area briefly, prior to becoming a children's librarian for many years at the Corvallis Public Library. Her faith was very important to her and she believed her most important job was that of wife, mother and faithfully imparting her Christian faith to her children.
Marie enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading and traveling.
Marie and Joe moved to Dallas, Oregon in 1995 to be near their oldest son, Paul and his wife. They soon became involved in the Dallas Alliance Church and grew close to many neighbors and new friends.
Survivors include her son and daughter in law, Paul and Petra Cole, of Dallas, daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Paul Laughlin of West Linn and son and daughter-in-law, Jon and Amy Cole of Beaverton, Oregon, along with 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by sister Barbara Juranek; husband Joe; and daughters Linda and Jane.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in Marie's memory to the following organizations.
Dallas Alliance Church, Willamette Valley Hospice, Compassion Int'l., Operation Smile or Doctors Without Borders.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 24 at Dallas Alliance Church, 775 E. Ellendale Avenue, Dallas.
