Sept. 26, 1920 — April 5, 2012
Marie Beth LeFors, 91, passed away on April 5.
She was born in Warren to Mary Neer and John Farr, and was the granddaughter of pioneer Simon Abraham Neer. She grew up on a dairy farm with three brothers and two sisters and was the last surviving member of her family. Graduating from Oregon Normal School (Western Oregon University) at age 20, she had her first teaching job at a one-room schoolhouse in Dufur, hitchhiking to get there. She also taught elementary grades at Tennessee School in Lebanon.
Marie married Leland L. “Dutch” LeFors on Aug. 28, 1941. They raised their family in Dallas, Lebanon and Albany and later lived in Wilsonville, and were married for over 65 years; he died in 2006. Marie was a devoted wife and mother, rising early each day to see that her husband and sons were well prepared for the new day. Dutch often said that she never met a stranger; she was adventurous and always had a smile and made friends wherever they travelled. She enjoyed cooking, bridge, knitting, gardening and golf and was accomplished at all.
She is survived by sons Bill LeFors and wife Ann of Portland; and son John LeFors and wife Sheila of St. Petersburg, Fla.
At her request, there will be no funeral service. Internment will be at the Dallas Cemetery in Dallas.
