February 13, 1927 — January 31, 2018

James W. “Willie” Carter, of Lebanon, passed away, two weeks before his 91st birthday.

Willie was born February 13, 1927, in Vandervoort, Arkansas, the son of Butler and Verbena Carter. He was raised in Arkansas and moved to Lebanon in 1945.

Willie married Edna Parker on January 11, 1947, in Lebanon. Willie had worked in the lumber industry all his life, retiring from Willamette Industries in 1989.

Willie was an outstanding musician, specifically a fiddle player. Music was his passion for over 70 years, in Oregon and, after his retirement, in Arizona. Willie was inducted into the Northwest Western Swing Society Hall of Fame in 2013. He was also a lifetime member of the Lebanon Moose Lodge and a member of the Old Time Fiddlers Association. Fiddle competitions brought Willie many trophies and awards over the years.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years Edna; children, Gail Cargill and Steve Carter; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.

A celebration of his life will be held from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2018, at the Lebanon Senior Center. The family would like to extend an invitation to all the many friends Willie made through the years. Huston-Jost Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
