May 13, 1960 — November 19, 2017

Cherryl Lynn Geary was born May 13, 1960 in Fort Collins, Colorado to Phyllis and Robert “Gus” Geary. She attended Rocky Mountain High School in Fort Collins, where she graduated in 1978.

Cherryl loved animals. After high school she followed her passion and spent many years as a dog groomer in Colorado. Later on, she would continue working with dogs at a doggy day care. She had an incredible wellspring of love for animals – both her own and those she cared for in her job.

While still in Colorado, Cherryl met her soulmate, Jo Bowans. Cherryl and Jo became a couple on September 2, 1989 and were joined in Holy Union on September 2, 1994. The pair were officially married on September 2, 2014 in Normandy Park, Washington.

In 1997, both Cherryl and Jo relocated to Oregon where Cherryl enrolled in Linn Benton Community College. She graduated with an Associates of Science degree in Accounting and a certificate in Supervisory Management in 2001. Upon graduating, Cherryl found her way back to her love of animals by working at Best Friends Doggy Daycare. She was the bookkeeper, dog attendant, organizer extraordinaire, and all around superhero.

For over 20 years, Cherryl fought a courageous battle with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, which later developed into pulmonary hypertension. She was a unicorn – she baffled and amazed all of her doctors by surviving and thriving, against all odds.

Just last spring, she was well enough to take a dream vacation to Las Vegas to attend a concert by her favorite musician, Cher. She and Jo continued the trip and drove up the California coast for several more days of panoramic ocean views, the sound of crashing waves, and breathing the fresh ocean air.

She is survived by her soulmate, Jo Bowans; brother Robert Geary and his partner Shiela; her fur babies CJ and Max; and her very best friend ever, Myrna Gusdorf.

Those who preceded her in death were her father, Robert “Gus” Geary; mother, Phyllis Geary; and her favorite fur babies, Tippi, Coley, Bear, Blue, Snuffy, Bee Bop, and Scout.

Cherryl was loved by so many people, and she never fully realized the positive impact she had on everyone that knew her. Her love and generosity were limitless. On November 19, 2017, we lost a smile that lit up the room, a laugh that sparkled, and an extraordinary soul.
