Bonaventure of Albany, a new retirement community in North Albany, is holding tours of model units from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday. The event will include a barbecue and music from a 1950s band.

Construction is continuing at the complex, which is at 420 Geri St. N.W., off of Hickory Street, but it should be open in a month or two, said Michelle Hampl, executive director of the facility.

Hampl said Bonaventure of Albany will have 143 apartments — including 22 memory care units and 54 assisted living apartments.

“People are coming in and reserving now. … Our independent living is almost full,” Hampl said. She added that those who lease early can get discounts on the units.

When it opens, the retirement community should employ about 50 to 60 people, including care, housekeeping and kitchen staff.

Hampl said that some people have compared Bonaventure of Albany to a cruise ship. “Residents don’t have to leave,” she added.

The facility includes restaurants, a beauty salon, and a movie theater, and there also will be activities such as poker nights, happy hours and trips to local events and places.

Apartments also are modern, and independent living units have full size kitchens in them. The assisted living units have smaller kitchens, but include full size refrigerators.

First floor apartments have balcony doors which can be used to enter the apartments. Upper floor apartments have balconies, Hampl said.

Bonaventure Senior Living operates retirement communities in other Oregon cities, throughout Washington State and in Colorado.
