LINN COUNTY COURTHOUSE
Domestic assault charges — 3 p.m. Wednesday, Linn County Circuit Court. Alexander Pahukula Barawis, 45, was arraigned on two counts of fourth-degree assault and one count of menacing. The charges stem from an Oct. 10 incident where Barawis is alleged to have beaten his female partner with a belt while grabbing her by the hair as she drove, causing the car to crash into another vehicle.
Arresting officers say Barawis fought with them at the scene. Later, during a search of his home, they say they found a knife stuck into the floor in the bathroom. Charging documents indicate Barawis has a previous conviction for similar crimes against the same woman. Judge Carol Bispham ordered Barawis shackled for court appearances and held on $25,000 security. His next court appearance is set for Oct. 30.
