A Brooklyn man wanted in connection with a 2007 Albany shooting was lodged in the Linn County Jail early Saturday morning on attempted murder and other charges.

Heriberto Victorio Gonzalez, 26, also faces charges of second-degree assault, first-degree burglary and unlawful use of a weapon.

His initial bail was set at $1 million and he is set for a first appearance Monday in Linn County Circuit Court.

Gonzalez, then 20, allegedly shot his ex-girlfriend during a dispute in the 3300 block of Hill Street S.E. on Dec. 1, 2007.

He showed up at the woman’s house, threatened to kill her and her new boyfriend, and used a handgun to fire a number of rounds inside the home, Albany police said in 2007.

The woman’s new boyfriend arrived at the residence, and Gonzalez fired more shots toward the house, according to police. A bullet struck the victim in the leg.

After several minutes, Gonzalez returned to the house and allegedly kicked the door open, and dragged his former girlfriend into the front yard, police said.

About that time, police sirens were heard and Gonzalez fled, according to authorities.

Police initially believed that Gonzalez went to California because he had relatives there.

No further information was immediately available about Gonzalez’s arrest.
