A Corvallis man was sentenced to more than six years in prison Tuesday for sexually assaulting a 23-year-old woman in February.
Juan Gerdado Jasso Lopez, 24, pleaded guilty to first-degree sex abuse and attempted first-degree rape.
The woman who brought the charges was visiting a friend in the 700 block of Northwest Fifth Street when she awoke to find Jasso Lopez on top of her. She fought him off, fled from the apartment and called 911.
Deputy District Attorney Karen Stanley said that Jasso Lopez raped the woman, but the charges reflect a plea bargain that enables the woman to avoid having to testify.
