LEBANON — Medical students in the Recreation and Networking Club at COMP-Northwest will host the first 10K Scrubs Run/Walk at Cheadle Lake on Saturday, Sept. 30.

Registration is $25 prior to the day of the race and can be completed at the Lebanon Area Chamber of Commerce at 1040 Park St., or online at www.scrubs.com.

There’s a $3 surcharge for online registrations.

Runners and walkers can also register the day of the event starting at 7:30 a.m. Registration then is $35.

Participants must register by Sept. 9 to guarantee a medical scrub top.

“The goal of the Recreation and Networking Club is to promote health among the students and the community,” said Katie Markelz, a second year student at COMP-Northwest from Fairfield, Conn. “The run/walk is a way to get our medical students into the community and interacting with the public.”

The first-time event is being sponsored by the Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons of Oregon and Samaritan Health Services.

Sponsorships are still available at $100.

Proceeds will benefit the Lebanon Community Foundation, which is developing and caring for the Cheadle Lake area.

Markelz said the recreation club had 30 members last year and is currently accepting new members.

“We have 100 more students this year, so we think the club will grow,” Markelz said.

More information and registration can be found at www.scrubs.com.

The Oregon Department of Transportation is launching a test pay-as-you-drive road tax that would charge drivers 1.5 cents per mile. Do you support or oppose this alternative to the existing state and local fuel taxes to fund road maintenance?
