The Sweet Home Police Department arrested a man early Monday morning for allegedly starting a fire inside a mobile home while another adult sleeping in a bedroom, said Chief Jeff Lynn.
Matthew Allen Pitts, 29, was lodged in the Linn County Jail on a charge of first-degree arson. His initial bail was set at $50,000.
The blaze occurred at the Tamarack Ridge Estates, a manufactured home park at 1530 Tamarack St., and was reported at 3:47 a.m.
Sweet Home Fire District Chief David Barringer said the blaze was out when public safety workers arrived at the scene. There was smoke within the residence and evidence of a fire in the front room.
“It wasn’t too significant, fortunately,” Barringer said, adding that the fire caused minimal damage.
Lynn said that Pitts and the other person had already left the residence when authorities arrived.
There are no other recent suspicious fires at the mobile home park or nearby that were connected to Monday morning’s case, Lynn said.
“I don’t anticipate other charges at this time, but the investigation is ongoing,” he added.
