The city of Albany has released the name of a man killed by a train last week.

Donald Keith Sawyer of Albany was 57.

Sawyer and his dog, a black-and-white mixed breed, were struck and killed by a Union Pacific freight train near Davidson Street and Water Avenue at about 10:30 a.m. on Thursday.

Railroad personnel said the train was going about 35 mph.

Capt. Brad Liles of the Albany Police Department said in an internal email that it appears there were no witnesses to the incident other than a train employee.

An officer was still working on a report about the train death on Monday morning, Liles wrote, in an email to the Albany Fire Department that was forwarded to the Democrat-Herald.
