SWEET HOME — Residents are invited to provide input about potential development of a high-use building (HUB) that would house the chamber of commerce, visitors center, Oregon Jamboree and the Sweet Home Economic Development offices during open houses this week and next.
An open house was held last week, and planning committee chairman Mike Adams said another meeting will is planned from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, in the Sweet Home Police Department meeting room.
The project is part of the Sweet Home Active Revitalization Effort (SHARE), which for the last two years has been developing downtown revitalization programs along with local business owners.
One of the group’s goals is to develop a high-use building to support economic development efforts, Adams said.
The proposed building would sit on two pieces of property. One houses the chamber of commerce building at 1575 Main St. and the other is next door at 1435 Main and is owned by the Sweet Home Economic Development Group Inc.
SHARE has worked with Reece and Associates of Albany to develop a conceptual drawing that includes a two-story building. In addition to office space, the site could include retail shops.
“We’re inviting people to come take a look and give us feedback,” Adams said.
Using public input, a three-dimensional plan can be developed for SHARE, the Sweet Home Economic Development Group and the chamber, Adams said.
