Bicycles may soon be allowed to join skateboarders at the Albany Skatepark.

The Albany Bike Park Task Force, with support from the Albany Parks and Recreation Department, the Albany Parks and Recreation Commission and the Albany Police Department, will ask the city council at 7:15 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9, to adopt an ordinance allowing bicycles in the Albany Skatepark. The meeting will be at Albany City Hall, 333 Broadalbin St. S.W.

While efforts to establish a bike park continue, the desire to allow the legal use of the Albany Skatepark by bikers has gained momentum. The majority of parks in Oregon permit skaters and bikers. In Albany, skaters who were engaged in the planning of the bike park have expressed little opposition to joint use.

For more information on the task force, contact Tari Hayes at (541) 917-7778 or tari.hayes@cityofalbany.net.
