Curtis Raymond Hughes, 43, was arraigned Wednesday in Linn County Circuit Court, where he faces charges of second-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, resisting arrest and four-degree assault.
Linn County Sheriff's deputies arrested Hughes Tuesday at his home after responding to a domestic violence call. According to the charging documents, Hughes brandished a deadly weapon and assaulted his domestic partner in the presence of at least one child. Deputies report he fought with them as they moved to take him into custody.
At his arraignment, Judge Daniel Murphy ordered Hughes held on $50,000 security, the statutory amount required for a Measure 11 offense.
Hughes was also arraigned for having failed to register as a sex offender, stemming from a third-degree sex abuse conviction.
His next hearing is set for Jan. 22.
