'Tis the season for church bazaars, and again St. Alban's Episcopal Church will auction off quilts created by members of the congregation.

The St. Alban's Holiday House will be held Saturday, Nov. 7, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

On the block will be three handmade quilted creations: a baby quilt, a patchwork lap robe and a wall hanging.

"We have many talented quilters in our congregation," said Pam Reiner, bazaar chairwoman.

Most of the fabric for the quilts is donated by parishioners. Making the quilts this year are Betty Holcomb, Francis Gunderman and Melissa Saylor.

Gunderman is making the wall hanging, based on a picture of the Yaquina Head Lighthouse.

"It's a pretty incredible wall hanging," Reiner said. "She is a brilliant quilter."

Because of the hues in the picture and the design of the wall hanging, Gunderman bought her own fabric for that particular quilt.

"Quilts are something practical," Reiner said. "They can be kept or given as a gift."

Besides the quilts, items to be auctioned will be gift baskets for all occasions, Christmas-themed baskets, decorations and baked items. There will also be a luncheon from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. that will consist of chicken artichoke casserole, cranberry salad and a drink. Lunch can be purchased for $5. Coffee and a piece of Mitford marmalade cake can be purchased for $2.

Last year the church raised close to $2,000 and $300 of that came from the sale of two quilts, Reiner said.

The money raised goes to support Sunrise Elementary School, Albany Options School, Fish of Albany,

St. Mary's Soup Kitchen, Helping Hands and various activities at the church.
