Vinyl artist Bill Thompson of Albany is the featured artist for March at Gallery Calapooia, 222 First Ave. W., Albany.
An artists' reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 2, with Thompson's show, "Experimentation and Evolution — 5 Years of Vinyl," on display.
Thompson uses layers of thin sheet vinyl to create fine art images. He discovered the process while attempting to cut a stencil for a multicolor screen print. Because accurate alignment with each layer is critical, each picture is limited to four or five colors.
In addition to Thompson, 18 other mid-valley artists will feature works during the reception. This includes fiber artist Karen Miller from Corvallis, who recently joined the gallery. She creates wall hangings, pillows and quilts with Katazone — Japanese stencil dyeing.
Beer, wine and snacks will be served. The reception is free. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. For more information, see gallerycalapooia.com or call 541-971-5701.
