The Arts Center Main Gallery, 700 S.W. Madison Ave., Corvallis, celebrates the Mexican Day of the Dead, El Dia de los Muertos, Nov. 1-3.

The celebration includes a family fiesta event Thursday, Nov. 3, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Some ofrenda (altars) will be open for sharing commemorations of loved ones who have died.

One ofrenda will be dedicated to remember those lost from the artistic community. It can be an artist you knew, or one you admired: Nelson Sandgren, Richard Diebenkorn, Georgia O'Keefe, Prince or others.

Members of Organizacion Latinas Unidos will create a traditional ofrenda to share, while Juliette de la Rosa, Elena Chavarria and Joey Azul, local artists, also will create personal ofrendas.

The community ofrenda will be ready to receive commemorations beginning Tuesday, Nov. 1, noon to 5 p.m. Mark items you want back with your name, email or phone number. Pick up and return is Friday, Nov. 4, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The fiesta Thursday, Nov. 3 includes paper skeleton making, sugar skull decorating, face painting, Loteria and folk dance demonstrations and lessons and refreshments.

The events are free. For more information, see the artscenter.net.
