Oregon Book Award winners Matthew Dickman, Lauren Kessler, Henry Hughes and Gina Ochsner, as well as five more distinguished Oregon writers, will read their work during the 20th annual “The Magic Barrel: A Reading to Fight Hunger,” beginning at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25 at the Whiteside Theatre, 361 S.W. Fourth St., Corvallis.
National Book Award winner Barry Lopez emcees the reading, which also includes Portland writer Robert Crum, Corvallis mystery novelist Wendy Madar, Oregon State University faculty members Elena Passarello and Susan Jackson Rodgers, and McMinnville writer and Linfield College professor Joe Wilkins.
Blues musicians Dave Plaehn and Jeff Hino will perform at 6:30 p.m., during intermission and after the event. The readings begin at 7 p.m. This year’s reading also includes a silent auction of an intaglio print donated by award-winning artist and OSU professor Yuji Hiratsuka. Refreshments will be available during the reception.
Admission is a suggested donation of $9 at the door, but listeners are encouraged to give what they can. Proceeds go to Linn Benton Food Share to fight hunger in the mid-valley community.
