Fresh off its dominant performance at the 5A Special District 1 district tournament, the Crescent Valley High boys golf team will be hunting for another trophy at the 5A state tournament.

The two-day, 36-hole event runs Monday and Tuesday at Emerald Valley Golf Club in Creswell.

CV junior Michael Gray is a front-runner to claim medalist honors after winning districts with a 71-72—143 at Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks. Teammates Matthew Zaback (76-73—149) and Seth King (77-79—156) placed in the top 10. 

Corvallis will also be competing after a third-place finish at districts. The Spartans are led by senior Nick Van Vleet, who took third at Quail Valley with a 68-77—145.

Summit, the three-time reigning champion, and Marist will likely battle with CV for the team title.

CHS finished third at last year’s state tournament while the Raiders tied for eighth. Ridgeview’s Isaac Buerger is the defending state champion.

Sweet Home will be at the 4A state tournament, which will begin Monday and conclude Tuesday at Eagle Crest Ridge Course in Redmond.

The Huskies placed second behind Stayton at last week’s 4A Special District 2 district tournament.


West Albany junior Anna Schweitzer will compete at the 6A state tournament as an individual.

Schweitzer finished third at last week’s regional tournament to earn her spot at state. As a sophomore last year, Schweitzer tied for 58th at state with a 99-110—209.

The two-day, 36-hole event runs Monday and Tuesday at Trysting Tree Golf Club.

Crescent Valley earned a spot at the 5A state tournament, also scheduled for Monday and Tuesday at Trysting Tree, by winning the 5A Special District 1 district tournament.

Senior Shayla Berrey was the district medalist after shooting an 82-79—161. Berrey placed fourth at state a season ago as the Raiders finished sixth. Wilsonville is the reigning champion.

South Albany senior Jessica Armfield will be competing as an individual after finishing third at districts with a 100-94—194.

At the 4A/3A/2A/1A state tournament, Sweet Home senior Haley May is in the field after taking third at districts with an 85-82—167. The 4A/3A/2A/2A tournament will be at Santiam Golf Club in Aumsville.
