SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Oregon State men’s soccer team jumped out to an early lead against Syracuse on Tuesday night thanks to Hassani Dotson, but surrendered a late goal in a 3-2 defeat.
Dotson got the Beavers (2-4) on the board in the ninth minute, juking through two Orange defenders and curving a shot past Hendrick Hilpert for the lead.
Syracuse (4-0-2) responded quickly as Jonathan Hagman buried a shot past Ryan Vincent in the 16th minute.
A foul by the Beavers in the 54th minute gave a penalty kick to the hosts, which Kamal Miller put away for a 2-1 Syracuse lead.
OSU's Matthias Binder drew his own foul just outside the box in the Orange’s half and curved home a bullet on the set piece for his first goal of the season and a 2-2 score in the 66th minute.
The clincher came in the 87th minute as Hugo Delhommelle took a corner for Syracuse that John-Austin Ricks bounced off a Beavers defender and into the goal.
Oregon State returns home to take on Portland on Sunday at Paul Lorenz Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
