Oregon and Oregon State meet Friday night at Gill Coliseum for the 349th version of the Civil War. Here’s a look at the Ducks.
Oregon (11-4, 1-1 Pac-12) has a reloaded roster after losing six players who played significant roles on last year’s Final Four team.
The Ducks are coming off a home split with mountain schools, having lost to Utah (66-56) and defeated Colorado (77-62). They won five straight games heading into Pac-12 play.
Troy Brown averaged a team-best 18.5 points in those games while shooting 13 of 22 (59.1 percent) from the floor. He’s 23 of 40 (57.5) in his last four games.
Payton Pritchard leads the team in scoring at 15.4 points per game. The 6-foot-2 sophomore guard also averages 3.9 rebounds and 4.3 assists.
Elijah Brown, a 6-4 senior guard and transfer from New Mexico, averages 13.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists. Troy Brown, a 6-7 freshman forward and a projected first-round pick in next year's NBA draft, averages 12.7 points, 7.6 rebounds and 3.0 assists.
Kenny Wooten has made a significant impact in his first season. The 6-9 freshman forward averages 8.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.3 blocks. He’s first in the Pac-12 and ninth in the country in blocks. He’s also shooting a conference-best 76.5 percent from the floor.
Elijah Brown leads the conference with a 94.5 free-throw percentage.
Oregon is first in the Pac-12 in field goal percentage defense (38.9); second in free-throw percentage (77.8), blocks (5.8) and rebounds against (31.5); third in scoring defense (69.9) and fourth in scoring offense (82.8).
Oregon is shooting 47.7 percent overall, 37.4 percent on 3-pointers and 77.8 percent at the foul line. By percentage, the Ducks have outshot their opponents from the field in all but two games.
"I think overall they’re maybe a better shooting team than they’ve been on the perimeter," Oregon State coach Wayne Tinkle said. "So we’ve got to be able to defend them both inside and out, keep them in the halfcourt and handle their pressure."
The Ducks have allowed just one opponent to shoot better than 43.6 percent (Central Arkansas, 48.4).
Dana Altman is in his eighth year as Oregon’s head coach. His run in Eugene has included five straight NCAA tournaments.
He was previously a head coach at Marshall, Kansas State and Creighton.
Altman, who has 608 career wins, is one of six active coaches with 20 straight winning seasons.
The Ducks have won seven of the last eight and 10 of 12 against the Beavers, including a two-game sweep last season.
Oregon State junior center Gligorije Rakocevic (calf) is doubtful for tonight. He's missed the last three games. OSU sophomore guard Kendal Manuel (groin) missed both games last week and is probable.
Oregon senior forward Roman Sorkin is considered questionable with a leg injury, which occurred against Utah last Friday. He's played in nine game and averages 4.3 points.
Oregon freshman guard Victor Bailey and junior forward Paul White have been sick.
Bailey has played in all 15 of the Ducks games and averages 7.7 points. White has played in 12 games, making 10 starts, and averages 10.4 points and 3.8 rebounds.
